Braun graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from SUNY Cortland. He is currently pursing his Masters of Public Administration and Public Policy at the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College.
Throughout his undergraduate career, Braun was involved in a wide array of student leadership experiences. Braun began his journey into leadership as Recruitment Chair for his fraternity and served as the President through his junior year. Braun was then elected to serve as President of Cortland’s Interfraternity Council, overseeing the college-wide fraternity community.
Aside from his Greek involvement, Braun become active in SUNY Cortland’s Student Government Association. He started as the Parliamentarian through his junior year and served as President his senior year. As President, Braun was able to bring together student leaders from all across the campus community to begin initiatives that would enhance the overall student experience. This included working with campus officials to increase the amount of student representation in administrative and faculty committees, being a vocal supporter in increasing the campus climate and promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion, and recreating the organizations framework to more effectively represent its students.
As SGA President, Braun was heavily involved in SUNY Student Assembly. He was a member of the Chancellor Search Student Advisory Committee and the Legislative Affairs Committee. He attended advocacy days in both Washington D.C. and Albany with other student leaders from across the state, and was awarded the Assembly’s “Best Advocate Award” at the Spring 2017 Conference.
Throughout his college tenure, Braun was a recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence in 2017, the Outstanding Senior Award in 2017, the Outstanding Achievement in Public Administration and Public Policy Award in 2017, the Outstanding Student Leader Award in 2017, awarded at the American Collegiate Moot Court Association Eastern Regional Tournament as one of the top competitors in the Eastern Region in 2017, the Junior Portfolio Award in 2016, and the Greek Chapter Leadership Award in 2015. Braun is also a member of the national political science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha.
Braun also worked as an intern with the North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) in Washington D.C. and the United University Professions in Albany, NY.
