Stephen Murphy is a second-year graduate student at SUNY Buffalo State. Currently, a Master’s in Public Administration Candidate, Stephen also possesses a BA in Political Science and Criminal Justice from SUNY Plattsburgh, where he is a proud member of the class of 2015. In his first tour of duty, Stephen serves SUNYSA as the Director of Academic Affairs, to which he was appointed in May 2017.
Prior to joining SUNYSA, Stephen has extensive experience in student governance. As an undergraduate, he served on numerous committees for the SUNY Plattsburgh Student Association in areas such as finance, intercollegiate athletics, and campus services. In addition to the seven semesters of committee work, Stephen also spent a year each in the roles of Senator and Vice President for Finance.
Following completion of his undergraduate studies, Stephen moved to Manchester, NH, where he served as a City Year AmeriCorps member. During this period he determined it was best that he continue his education and opted to pursue his MPA at SUNY Buffalo State. As a student at SUNY Buffalo State, Stephen currently serves as the Graduate Student Association President, the Graduate Assistant to the Division of Public Administration, and a Student Assistant in the SUNY Buffalo State Parking Services Office.
Stephen was born and raised in Newark, NY, a small town between Rochester and Syracuse in Wayne County, and is pursuing a career in both higher education and government.
