Katherine Holmok is a junior at Alfred State studying Business Administration and is a recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Program’s Excellence in Education Scholarship. She has been involved with Alfred State’s Student Senate for the past two years, first as Vice President of Student Life and then as President and Chair. She was re-elected to a second term as President and Chair in the spring of 2016.
During her first year in student government, she began an outreach effort in the surrounding community and worked with the Village’s Mayor and Trustees to develop more positive relations between the Village, Alfred University, and Alfred State. The culmination of this work resulted in her appointment as a non-voting member of the Village Board and official Liaison from her college, both of which still stand.
Besides student government, Katherine is passionate about a variety of different causes. She volunteered as a Civic Engagement Advocate (CEA) for Alfred State’s Center for Civic Engagement this past year where she was responsible for all media. For the 2016-2017 academic year, she will return as Lead CEA and will be responsible for directing a team of five students who identify and address on- and off-campus issues. Her passion is increasing voter turnout among her peers so she will head efforts to register more students and organize a mock election for the campus before the general election in November.
Katherine currently serves a voting member of Alfred States Student Engagement Committee, Commencement Committee, Leadership Advisory Committee, Sustainability Committee, Campus Beautification Committee, and the Campus Safety Advisory Board. She also serves as Secretary and Historian of the Alfred State chapter of Business Professionals of America.
