Representative, Doctoral Granting Institutions
Manik Elahi was elected as Representative for the Undergraduate students of the Doctoral Granting Institutions of the State University of New York in April 2017. Manik is a junior at the Rockefeller College at the University at Albany, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Sciences. In May 2017, he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from Hudson Valley Community College.
Manik also served as the Director of Communications for the SUNY Student Assembly last year, which also gave him a seat on the President’s Cabinet. In this role, he led the Student Assembly’s communication’s efforts and was the principal spokesperson on behalf of the President.
Manik was also a Trustee at Hudson Valley Community College through the 2016-17 academic year, and, in this role, he represented the interests of his 12,000 peers. As Co-Chair of the Curriculum and Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees, he championed student issues like tuition affordability, and, prevention of sexual assault on campus. While at Hudson Valley, Manik also served as Secretary of the Student Senate, and, in this role served on the Executive Board. He also served as the Principal Advisor for Policy and Spokesperson for the President of the Student Senate.
As he looks towards the future, Manik is looking forward to bringing his diverse background and experience to advocate for his peers across the State of New York, on a multitude of issues on the local, state and federal levels of government.
